چکیده
The case here presented casts doubt on the absolute reliability of Spalding's sign, and indicates that loss of tissue fluids in the foetus may lead to overlapping of bones while the foetus may be, in fact, still alive, though perhaps in a weakened condition. It may further be noted here that, in a dead foetus, the general loss of tone may lead to a degree of collapse of the chest wall, which may be recognised on radiological examination by a close approximation of the ribs on one side. This appearance has been observed by the writer on several occasions.
